St Thomas Aquinas

Today we have given thanks for St Thomas Aquinas, priest, Dominican, Teacher of the Faith, the 'Angelic Doctor'. Despite the historic rivalries of Franciscans and Dominicans, the sons of St Francis were told always to regard the sons of St Dominic with true Christian Charity. So, to be true to my  Franciscan heritage, I have duly spent part of today reading St Thomas, and have come across these gems. My source tells me they are among the most well known and well loved in the whole of Christendom; I confess to never having seen them before! In reparation, I will now add them to that eclectic collection of prayers I try to use regularly.

A Prayer before Study

Grant to me, O most merciful God,
that I might ardently love,
prudently ponder,
rightly acknowledge
and perfectly fulfill all that is pleasing to you,
for the praise and glory of your name. Amen.

Holy Cross, my certain salvation,
Holy Cross, may I ever adore,
Holy Cross of the Lord be with me,
Holy Cross, my refuge, for ever. Amen.

St Thomas Aquinas, ora pro nobis!
